The renowned Matches Fashion is set for a remarkable comeback, now under new ownership after facing administration last year.
This iconic clothing retailer, along with its exclusive brand Raey, has been acquired by the innovative founders of the luxury shopping app Mile, Joe Wilkinson and Mario Maher, as reported by Vogue Business.
The partnership marks the beginning of a new luxury group, Hulcan, with plans to relaunch Matches and Raey in 2026. Full details will be revealed in the upcoming New Year.
Originally put into administration by Frasers Group in March 2024, Matches struggled less than three months after the purchase from Apax Partners’ subsidiary MF Intermediate Limited.
In an interview with Vogue Business, Maher stated: “We aim to preserve the heritage of Matches and what it stands for: curation, exclusivity, and a strong product.
“While maintaining that core identity, we will introduce fresh perspectives.”
Wilkinson expressed excitement, saying: “This is a pivotal moment for us. We’re merging brands, media, and technology into a unified ecosystem designed for the future of luxury.
“We’re not merely establishing shopping spaces… We aspire to redefine how individuals discover, experience, and connect with brands.
“Over the past six years, we’ve developed everything from the ground up, demonstrating that we can innovate, scale responsibly, and create authentic value for both brands and customers.
“With support from our investors and partners, we step into this new chapter with substantial momentum.”
